Bach y Mendelssohn
8. July @ 19:00 - 21:00
Bachcelona opening concert
“Every room in which Bach is sung is transformed into a church.”
Mendelssohn expressed himself in these words in a letter to his father in 1835. Sharing this deep feeling of admiration, we are proposing a concert that highlights Mendelssohn’s devotion to the figure of Bach, with a dialogue between the two musicians that is full of surprising coincidences and complicities. We will thus have occasion to enjoy the most polyphonic Mendelssohn, the young man of immense talent who was then discovering the works of the Kantor of Leipzig.
We will also be presenting some pieces composed in the spring of 1829, which was precisely when Mendelssohn was to interpret anew the Matthäus-Passion, a work that had remained forgotten for nearly a century. Indeed, that proved to be a historic event with an enormous impact, marking the turning point in the definitive recognition of J.S. Bach’s work.
